Song Lyrics by Dido Walker
IN THIS PLACE
by Dido Walker
Dedicated to those who died in the December 2015 Parisian Atrocities
I'm staring through a French, stained glass window;
And every breath I take seems holy here.
We're standing on the pavement by "Le Carillon"
We're trying to understand just what happened here.
In this place, in this place,
There is a saving grace
And so I raise a prayer up to the sky:
Because freedom needs a friend
And we should all defend
The freedom for which some
Were made to die
A roar went up inside a Paris stadium..
While outside walls and shops another sound was heard.
They've been laying flowers by the railings
Expressing grief that goes beyond mere words.
In this place, in this place,
There is a saving grace
And so I raise a prayer up to the sky:
Because freedom needs a friend
And we should all defend
The freedom for which some
Were made to die
Candles pierce the night in solidarity:
Across the squares blood's red under every skin.
The message of these souls is one of clarity:
This hatred and violence can never win!
(Repeat chorus or guitar break)
We're looking to the future
Working to build peace
Our children will live on
After we're all gone
For change will only happen by degrees
Till we build the peace for everyone
In this place, in this place
There is a saving grace
And so I raise a prayer up to the sky
Because freedom needs a friend
And we should all defend
The freedom for which some
Were made to die
