Farewell to Frankenstein.

We hope the monster once created
Will soon be negated: Laws have loopholes, That turn into snake holes. Populations are decimated While deaths are commiserated We now have to ask, "Why? Why did we raise him from the slab? Why did we let him out of the lab?" Ethiopia, Bolivia, Sudan Where gun trade laid low Child, woman and man Elsewhere too they heard the sound Of the same monster's boot, The grinding of his gritted teeth And his bolted jaws, saying, As he looks at people beneath: "I 'm a slave made from people's greed! I wish as much as you to be freed!" The electricity of the storm Shudders through everyone.. Yet not everyone is so minded; Not everyone is so blinded, Confused between need and greed. If only we heed these mistakes, If only we have what it takes To reverse the current, the rip tide Of human loss so decried. Let's not let the innocent count the cost. Time and time again they have lost! Their side is the same as our own! These are the seeds we have sown. Let the monster halt, lifeless! Let there be one strife less Till we shut the whole thing down, And, the whole world round We leave no one wifeless, No one husbandless. And let children caress the hand of each other, saying, " These are my sisters and brothers" |
Let their clamour grow loud..
while the receding monster's feet Disappear in a dust cloud! And then, when it settles, Perhaps we all greet a new dawn Where no one is the pawn In needless war's game And no one is torn From the beautiful dream. A world so in need of release Strains to hear the music of peace, To see the monster abnegated, A better world recreated. By Dido Walker 1/02/2016 read more by Dido in Didology Till we've done away with every last gun. Thought by Dido Walker 12/07/2016 There's trouble in the USA: In-store guns on layaway.. Isn't it time they put them away? "Stop the terrorism!"hypocrites say, "Terrorism's bad", but hey, Someone just downloaded a plastic gun, Or bought one on the internet. Black clouds blot the face of the sun When a gun steals the life of even one child. We all wept for the dad. No one smiled At the mishap, the void the death left. The choking sobs between the taut breath. Yet two die each minute worldwide barely seen Names hardly known or whose child they've been It's time every gun every place was reviled. Bare-faced profiteering's brought us low. 15,000 US yearly deaths should tell us so. Votes and voices can stop all this! Let's all practise what we're preaching! Or what's the meaning of anti-terrorist teaching ?? The gun culture's the pustulent vulture Feeding on innocent flesh. Fear feeding fear in an ensnaring mesh! They say: outlaw a gun and outlaws win Yet crime leads to crime: See the state we're in? There's a world yearning to break out: be gun- free! Let's be the peacemakers who are in that lobby! Time our vote and voice was heard For the sake of PEACE.. a so loved, so ill-used word! Dido Walker |
